Ryan Schwartz breaks down his Kentucky commitment
Schwartz, a former Texas signee, is ranked in the top-125 nationally by Perfect Game and recently committed to Kentucky.
The University of Texas fired David Pierce on June 24 and became the big story in college baseball a day later when it stole Jim Schlossnagle from rival Texas A&M, less than 24 hours after the Aggies were defeated by Tennessee in Game 3 of the College World Series championship.
It was a story that sparked considerable interest given Schlossnagle’s comments after the game, but it set a chain of events in motion that led to a good outcome for Kentucky. Class of 2024 top-125 prospect Ryan Schwartz signed with Texas but re-opened his recruitment following Pierce’s firing. The Wildcats, which were in contention last summer before he chose the Longhorns, quickly got him on campus. Recruiting coordinator Austin Cousino led the charge and Schwartz committed a few days later, becoming the second highest-ranked player in Kentucky’s class according to Perfect Game.
