Background
A Lexington native, Cameron played at Lexington Catholic High School and earned First Team All-State honors as a senior. Cameron hit .398 with 17 doubles and five home runs in 2023. He was ranked as the No. 5 player in Kentucky and No. 1 outfielder in the state by Perfect Game.
Once he made it on campus, Cameron had a strong fall and preseason and emerged as a real option to open the season as a starter.
Cameron won the job in center field and debuted as the No. 9 hitter against USC Upstate on Feb. 16. In doing so, Cameron was the first Kentucky freshman to start his debut since the 2021 season. He appeared in nine games as a freshman with eight starts, finishing the year with a slash line of .190/.379/.190 with five runs and four RBI. His final game was against Kennesaw State on March 10. Once left fielder Ryan Waldschmidt recovered enough from his torn ACL to play defense, the Wildcats mostly settled on a defensive rotation of Waldschmidt, Nolan McCarthy and James McCoy.
