Kentucky makes school history but takes some hits in 2024 MLB Draft

The Wildcats had two players drafted in the top 60 for the first time in school history but saw six incoming commitments be selected.

The 2024 MLB Draft concluded on Tuesday evening, giving us a clearer idea of how Kentucky’s 2025 roster might look.

Starting with the good news, the Wildcats capped their best season in school history by setting another historic mark. Ryan Waldschmidt went No. 31 overall to the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Emilien Pitre went No. 58 to the Tampa Bay Rays, giving the program its first-ever pair of top 60 draft picks in the same draft. Their combined ranking (89) is also the lowest for a single draft.

Other Wildcats who were also selected included right-handed pitcher Trey Pooser, first baseman Ryan Nicholson, right-handed pitchers Mason Moore and Travis Smith and left-handed pitcher Dominic Niman. However, the Wildcats undeniably took some hits as well, unexpectedly losing at least two incoming commitments.
