Kentucky in strong position for portal targets
Kentucky could soon close on a few portal targets, plus a note on the search for the third assistant.
We’re a week away from the start of the 2024 MLB Draft, an important three days from July 14-16 for college baseball programs when it comes to their roster for the 2025 season. Transfer portal activity for Kentucky continues to be heavy heading into the draft, but a clearer picture regarding needs should come to light over the next week or two.
Kentucky currently has 12 portal commitments, though players like Cal State Bakersfield right-handed pitcher Ryan Verdugo and Canisius outfielder Jackson Strong are in the best position to be selected in the top 10 rounds of the MLB draft and might not make it to campus. The 2024 high school class currently has 14 commitments, though Frankfort, Illinois, shortstop Tyler Bell is most at risk to sign with an MLB team.
Still, this could be a strong week for the Wildcats on the recruiting trail. Despite being down an on-field assistant following the departure of Nick Ammirati, Kentucky has positioned itself well in the portal with a few targets.
