Elite prospect Owen Jenkins commits to Kentucky
Jenkins, a senior at Lexington Catholic High School, is ranked in the top 50 nationally by both Prep Baseball Report and Perfect Game.
Owen Jenkins, the top recruit in Kentucky in the 2025 class and a top 50 prospect nationally by Prep Baseball Report and Perfect Game, announced on social media that he has committed to Kentucky. Jenkins was committed to the University of Louisville for three years before reopening his recruitment earlier this month.
A 6-2, 215-pound catcher, Jenkins represents a massive recruiting win for the Kentucky baseball program. He also considered Tennessee and Vanderbilt following his decommitment from Louisville, but chose to stay home.
Jenkins is ranked the No. 46 player overall by Perfect Game and the No. 5 catcher and is ranked No. 41 nationally by PBR and the No. 4 catcher. As a junior at Lexington Catholic High School, Jenkins hit .474 with nine doubles, one triple, five home runs and 29 runs batted in. The Lexington Herald-Leader named him the Lexington Player of the Year for the second straight year. In addition, Jenkins played in the 2024 Perfect Game All-American Classic in Phoenix in August and also played in the 2024 Prep Baseball All-American Game.
His sister, Lane, is a member of the Kentucky volleyball team this season. He also had a few ties to Kentucky through the Lexington Catholic program. Jenkins plays for Scott Downs, who pitched in the MLB from 2000-14 and played at Kentucky in the 1990s. Jenkins is also a teammate of fellow UK pitching commit Jack Sams.
Jenkins becomes Kentucky’s top commitment in the 2025 class. According to PBR, outfielder Braxton Van Cleave (No. 63) and righthanded pitcher Joshua Flores (No. 95) are also considered to be top 100 prospects.
