Welcome to Bat Cats Central!

Hello. My name is Derek Terry, the author of Bat Cats Central. I’m happy to have you here! For those who don’t know me, I’m a former University of Kentucky beat writer for a few places, notably The Cats’ Pause/247Sports.com (2017-22) and Rivals.com/Cats Illustrated (2015-17). I interned at D1baseball.com during my final year at UK, which helped expand my college baseball writing to the Big 10 and other mid-major conferences.

I’m a lifelong Kentucky native and a 2017 graduate of the University of Kentucky School of Journalism and Media. I left full-time sports writing in 2022 to pursue a career outside the field, but I started this newsletter because of my passion for University of Kentucky baseball.

College baseball occupies an interesting spot on the sports calendar, particularly at a basketball-crazed school like Kentucky. The regular season begins in the middle of February and has to compete with March Madness well into conference play. Spring football is also going on simultaneously and generates just as many, if not more, headlines at many SEC schools.

I created this newsletter to provide Kentucky fans with year-round coverage of the baseball team. While other outlets do cover the baseball program, no other website, newspaper or magazine is solely dedicated to Kentucky baseball the way Bat Cats Central is. The depth of coverage you get here is unmatched in the Kentucky market.
